Hello to all: Get your Speed-Os's on the pool should be open by noon on Wednesday May 28th. Sorry for any inconvenience this short delay may have caused you. The weather is great here.
Thanks May 23, 2008 Hi Owners,
It cost us (Royal Shell) $65.00 for the week. This might be an option for all that are here. I know this is an inconvenience but this might be a solution. All you have to do is call Tween Waters at 239-472-5161 and ask for reservations. Ask if you can get a fitness pass for your guest. It is $65.00 for the week and your guest(s) just have to go and register at the front desk and show photo ID. This does allow use of the pool.
Sincerely, May 22, 2008 Dear Homeowners,
We were notified by Neptune Pools today that the pool project will not be completed on Saturday as we had anticipated. They have run into unexpected delays and it appears that completion will not take place until Tuesday afternoon or possibly Wednesday morning of next week. We apologize for this inconvenience since we realize that many of you will have renters or guests in your homes. Please know that we are doing everything possible to make sure Neptune moves as quickly as possible to get this project completed. It is unfortunate that Neptune was unable to begin the project earlier this month due to a conflict. However, we felt it was very important to complete the project before the summer season due to concerns the health department could have raised.
Sincerely,

It is with sadness that I bring the news of the death of Mrs. Fenniman (Bill Fenniman's mother). She was in relatively good health until the last few weeks prior to her death. Mrs. Fenniman was 97 years old and a very up beat thinking lady. Our sympathy, thoughts and prayers go out to the Fenniman Family.
April 24, 2008 Hi All,
The Sunset Captiva Homeowners Board of Directors met on Wednesday April 23, 2008 and they asked me to send you this update. I (Lucinda) will be on vacation from May 2 through May 9th. If you need anything please call the 472-9111 number and ask for the Captiva Office the girls will try to help and if it is not an emergency I will call you as soon as I get back. Also George is available at 395-3167.
As you all know by now the Pool renovation will start on May 12th. Worse case scenario is 2 weeks but weather permitting it will get done
sooner. The flat roof on the pool house will also be repaired starting May 12th. This is only estimated to take a day or two. We have purchased two new bulletin boards. We placed one at the pool house and one at the dock. We will be purchasing a bigger one to also put at the pool house.
New tennis nets have been purchased. We (George) did try to sew the old ones and they only lasted 2 months.
For all owners owning a boat we are going to be sending you a letter requesting insurance information on your Boats. Please have your
insurance company provide us with a copy of the coverage on the boat. On Earth day, Bob Vinson, George and several other owners planted a few more plants and will be installing mulch as needed. The plants are permanent ones verses annuals to save the association a little money. It looks great! Next time you see your Board members please Thank them for all of the work they have done. The place looks great!
As always if you need anything don't hesitate to call me. April 18, 2008
Check out the pictures of the discharge pipe and

Thanks UPDATE: Captiva Erosion Prevention District
Weeks Marine began pumping sand today. The starting point is right at the end of Laika Lane. They cleared the pipes first, which made the water red with rust for a bit, then started pumping sand at 1:30-2:00 p.m. From the starting point at Laika Lane, they will add pipe as they pump to the south, just to south of Jensen’s on the Gulf, then will move pipe back to the north as they pump In that direction. They are fencing off the area of the discharge pipe and active bulldozer work area, but have left plenty of room for people to walk past the worksite, and stop and watch over the fence if they want to. No part of the beach will be completely blocked to people during the length of the project. The roped off area can be walked past in 2-3 minutes. Just keep an eye out for vehicles. The CEPD has one of their engineers on Captiva over the weekend to oversee construction. Weeks Marine, the contractor, is going above and beyond their contractual obligations to accommodate renters, etc., and hope all continues smoothly to a speedy conclusion!

April 15, 2008 Hello to All:
Please keep the Malecha family in your thoughts and prayers.
April 10, 2008 Dear Homeowners:
As you may have been made aware, we have recently experienced a delamination of the pool surface and will have to refurbish the pool as soon as possible. We have completed a process whereby we sought all the alternatives available to us both as to contractor as well as timing of repair At the same time, we had a major objective of providing you with as much advance notice as possible so that you could do your own planing accordingly. We are in hopes that this project will take less than two weeks. Essentially, the pool will be drained, the surface removed, and after cleaning and repair as well as other items that will be done to "bring it up to code", it will take two days to refill the pool.
Please note that the project is scheduled to start one month from Monday on Thanks UPDATE: Captiva Erosion Prevention District
Shore pipe has been offloaded from barges onto beach and stockpiled in several locations. They will be placing the pipe on the beach from Sunset Beach in SSIR south to just past Jensen's on the Gulf beginning Sunday or Monday, April 13th or 14th. That should take 1-2 days at most, and the contractor is waiting The dredge should arrive here Tuesday night April 15th, and they plan to hook up and begin pumping the next day, Wednesday April 16th. The pumping will begin at the south end, moving north 500-1000 feet per day, with the contractor breaking down and picking up pipe behind them as they move north. Sand ramps will be built approx. every 200 feet to enable easy access over the 32" pipe, and no more than 1000 feet will be roped off for safety at any time. They will work 24 hours a day, so back-up beepers and bulldozer noise will be a factor for people on the beach for 1-2 days until they pass out of range. Pumping is schedule to take 7 days, 10 at worst. They should be nothing but a memory by May 1 (*Note: They say April 25th). It's lots of fun to watch, and really pretty exciting. It can make for good shelling, and birds flock to the pipe discharge like crazy. Please feel free to direct any specific questions or guests directly to me.

The weather has been fantastic. Average daily high temperatures during the month of March was 80 degrees.
George has done a great job keeping all under control. He has worked an additional half of a day on each of this normal days off. I'm sure his head is spinning at the end of each day this past month.
Report from the Pool Committee:
With grateful appreciation to all 39 owners who took time to responded, the committee recommended to the Board that no further action be taken addressing pool shade, play ground, kiddie pool, or pergolas. The majority favored "doing nothing" at the current time.
Click here to view the results (PDF) The aggregate finish on the pool has gone beyond its "life time" and its delaminating material is now coming loose, we will be required by the health department to refinish the pool as soon as possible. Accordingly, we are proceeding with the obtaining of bids to finish that job and hope to have it completed during the month of May prior to Memorial Day. The pool will have to be emptied and closed for several days. It is the Boards plan to try to coordinate the roof replacement at the same time the pool is closed. We will be giving you as much notice as possible on that project in order minimize any inconvenience. Your understanding of these situations will be greatly appreciated.
